Next, GINA The Corner Pocket PITTLER reminded one and all of the Jazz Festival, and caveated her craft talk - she's really a nice, kind pool hustler who just wants to be a good old girl!

John Dado pushes the Polio Eradication program.

Port-a-JOHN DADO then reported that the R.I. Polio Eradication Program (PEP) was well underway and that the net proceeds from the Club's Annual Golf Tournament had been dedicated to PEP. He went on to remind us that October 10 is the deadline to make the requested supplemental contributions to this very worthwhile venture.

Norm Sanos and Dave Amundsen sit alone at the birthday table.

Rick Oberlin leads the crowd in Happy Birthday.

The September Birthday Boys, including the Prez, were all feted in fine fashion and serenaded with a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday", thanks to a timely prompt from RICK O'BERLIN Wall. The customary $5.00 fine ensued, except for those who were too old to remember to sit at the Birthday Table in which case(s) it was $10.00. Thanks, guys.

Harvey Freetly describes Barcelona despite flashing strobe lights.

Jim Becker travels, buy a house, pays a fine.

JIM at your BECKER and call was then fined $75.00 for various and sundry matters, including a gambling junket to Jackpot, Nevada, golf in Idaho, bratwurst and beer in Vienna, Austria, a $250.00 raffle win, and a new house on Amber Way. The generous Jim also offered to donate $78.00 to PEP. Thanks, Jim.

Herb Bundesen looks pleased with the raffle results.

HERB Garden BUNDESEN won the raffle which should have been the Prez' cue to introduce our speaker and program, but alas, the Prez was it, much to the chagrin of replicated GENE BENEDETTI, who was fined $100.00 for the birth of his first great grandchild, Kelven Joseph Diehl (granddaughter Nessia is the proud mommy!). Congratulations, Gene!

Dan Libarle acknowledges a great nephew.

Gene Benedetti is a great great grandfather, pays $100.

President Ed strikes a reflective pose.

Speaking of golf, the Prez then gave kudos to LEE never BEAN there for the Club's successful golf tournament last month, which netted $3,731.00!

The cagey Prez then segued into a Club Assembly and the state of the Club, which can be summed up in 3 words - Ed needs money! Our PEP goal is $8,400+, which has been pledged to RI. Now we need to make good on it (say, what was the Prez' major in college anyway, government financing?!). The Prez will be sending letters out soon to each member for PEP contributions (i.e. $78.00 to PEP and $125.00 to the Rotary Foundation) so that he can (hopefully) present our Club's remittance for the full amount pledged to the District Governor when she meets with our Club on October 17. All PEP donors will receive participation pins from the Prez.

President Ed exhorts the membership.

Speaking of matters monetary, the Prez noted that members may elect to pay their fines (annualized) without formal recognition from the Prez during the meetings if they so elect - please call secretary STEVE 1862 OLMSTED Act if you are interested. Finally, the Prez concluded his program by announcing the monthly Association Dinner, and that a farewell dinner was being held on Saturday night (9/27) at Graziano's for outgoing member MAUREEN Freedom of JOYCE, who is being transferred to Sacramento. We all wish her well in her new position and location. Over and out!

COMING EVENTS

September 26 - Club Assembly, President Ed Fullerton

October 3 - Tawny Tesconi presents an interesting program

October 10 - Jim Becker presents an interesting program

October 17 - District Governor Terri Clark

The bell sounded at precisely 12:30 and PRESIDENT ED called the meeting to order. BARNEY FAUSS led us in a jolly rendition of “I’m a Rambler” followed by an enthusiastic “God Bless America”.

Barney Fauss leads crowd in God bless America.

LARRY JONAS stepped up to the podium next for the invocation. He read a passage from scripture on “asking for forgiveness”. It applied to us all.

Larry Jonas evokes message of Yom Kippur.

The usual hugs and handshakes quickly followed. The tradition seemed a little louder and longer than it has been in awhile (everyone must be back from summer vacation). LINDA ZACHARIN needed PRESIDENT ED to quiet down the crowd so she could introduce visiting Rotarian, Lori Mathews, from the Petaluma Valley Club.

RICK MOSSI introduced the only guest (at least that’s what we thought at the time) Jim Marks.

Lyn de l'Eau, Babe Amaral, Rick Oberlin, Heidi Kibbe and Kathy O'Connor ham it up.

PRESIDENT ED then gave a special welcome back to HEIDI KIBBE. We missed you, HEIDI!.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

CRAFT TALK #1

Who’s the farm girl from Iowa with three sisters whose names all start with G? You’ve seen her around Petaluma for the past 23 years with her hand up volunteering for all sorts of organizations. She has three children and worked with her husband in his optometry office for 17 years (and they’re still married). It’s none other than our very own Pool Shark, GINA PITTLER. Gina put the challenge out there to anyone who feels they can give her a match.

Gina Pittler gives craft talk.

Ed Fullerton congratulates Gina on her new chicken badge.

JOHN DADO then gave an announcement about DISTRICT GOVERNOR TERRI CLARK’S visit and our pledge to help the Polio Plus Program

John Dado reminds members he waiting for contributions to Polio Eradication program.

TED ATKINS stood up to question PRESIDENT ED’S meeting protocol. It seems TED must have been thinking of how to avoid flying golf balls while the PRES was asking for Rotarians with guests. Everyone then gave a warm “hello” to Ernie Jensen.

Ted Adkins is late in introducing Arkansas visitor, Ernie Jensen.

CRAFT TALK #2

Who’s the all-star baseball player from a hard working family in Pennsylvania? After life in the fast lane and making his first million as a housing project entrepreneur at a very young age, BRIAN HOOVER had a spiritual revelation. He and his wife gave up all their material wealth and became part of the Salvation Army. We are very lucky to have them assigned to Petaluma in 1995. BRIAN is also a very proud father and grandfather. We were all very moved by BRIAN’S accomplishments.

Brian Hoover gives a craft talk that'll be hard to beat.

Ed apologizes for missing Chicken Badge, says Steve Olmsted will pay.

No time for fines today. Too bad! I’m sure PRESIDENT ED will make up for it next week.

Dave Amundsen beams with newly won bottle of wine.

DAVE AMUNDSEN won the raffle and walked away with a bottle of wine.

Tawny Tesconi introduces today's program.

TAWNY TESCONI introduced Bruce Campbell, President of CK Lamb, as our guest speaker. It seems a call from Wolfgang Puck, owner of Spago Restaurant, requesting a 30 lb. lamb converted Bruce from a little old sheepherder to a national lamb supplier. Bruce can break down those little lambs to just about any shape and size you want. Bruce then showed off his auctioneer voice and put up a rack of lamb for bit. It wasn’t long before AL KAPLAN donated $45 for the delightful piece of meat.

Al Kaplan offers high bid, takes racks of lamb and ball cap.

Bruce Campbell receives Rotary paperweight from President Ed Fullerton.

Rick Oberlin exudes sartorial splendor.

RICK OBERLIN was than recognized for his dapper dressing apparel and that led to the fining of LARRY JONAS for his wearing of shorts and sandals. The fee was $15.

Larry Jonas exudes (well -- you figure it out).

Gene Andrews gives craft talk, walks off with chicken badge.

GENE ANDREWS than gave his craft talk. He has been a member for almost 18 months. It was about time. A S.F. native, who was raised in Marin, Gene has lived in Petaluma for 8 years and now works for World of Carpets. President-elect ONITA PELLEGRINI sponsored Gene.

Ted Adkins smiles after another successful "God Bless America."

After a feasting on a scrumptious lunch of roasted park tenderloin, mashed potatoes and gravy (along with the usual Adobe Harvest fineries) the meeting was rang to order by returning PRESIDENT ED FULLERTON. TED ADKINS was in exceptionally good voice this late summer afternoon and lead our club in “God Bless America”.

Larry Gotfredson delivers invocation; Ed Fullerton reflects.

LARRY GOTFREDSON asked for a moment of silence to express our sympathies to our fellow Rotarians ONITA PELLIGRINI for- the loss of her mom and Rich Croci for the loss of his daughter. In the shadow of Rich and Onita’s loss, Larry's meditation was a great reminder that we need to TAKE TIME with the ones we love.

Loretta Catarozoli introduces visiting Rotarians.

LORETTA CATAROZOLI introduced the visiting Rotarians; Bob Hersh of the Sebastopol Club and Karen Simmons of the Santa Rosa Club after which the group hugging, handshaking and kissing commenced. After the crescendo of familial greetings, we were again seated and ready for business.

Late arrival Marcus Benedetti gets to eat; Bill Groverman volunteers for microphone duties.

Roy Musick finds sleeping with Ed Fullerton is a fine experience (a $50 fine).

Ted Adkins fished with Ed in Alaska, also pays $50 fine.

After President Ed announced the long list of club member's anniversaries, he was ready to rake in the fines! As we all know, our traveling President was not at the meeting last week due to his fishing trip to Alaska with son, Michael. What some of us didn't know is that was he was accompanied by a very soft spoken DR. ROY MUSICK and a very "confused" TED ADKINS. President Ed called upon his travel partners, who generously gave $50.00 each to the fine can. After taking a vote to see how many members thought that the President Himself should be fined, our humble leader forked over $50.00 as well, a rather light sum compared to the 700 pounds of fish which was reportedly caught by he and Michael collectively. Moral of the story: Cost to fine can per pound of fish = $.07, cost of time fishing with Michael and friends = PRICELESS.

Nit Anderson recounts adventures in Thailand, pays fine.

NIT ANDERSON was called upon to report of her recent trip through Thailand. Nit, joined 42 other past presidents in Thailand and together they distributed clothing and school supplies to needy children. Many of these children walk 5 to 7 kilometers daily to school. Imagine the thrill one of the children experienced when he/she was gifted with a bicycle? Nit presented numerous flags to add to our beautiful and vast collection. Way to go Nit! Of course, just when she thought it was safe to sit down, our Fishing President Ed asked her for a fine. Nit graciously handed over $50.00.

Jet lagged Mark Stokes returns from Italy, fails to avoid fine.

Another traveling Rotarian, MARK STOKES, was called upon and interrogated about his recent trip to Italy. He and his wife won the all expenses paid trip to Italy, Florence, Venice (which included a 2,500 mile bus trip) from the American Cancer Society. Although Mark reported that the “free” trip cost a bundle, he was kind enough to remit $50.00 to the fine can.

Rick Van Bebber is glum as Karen volunteers him to pay fine for fast trip to Las Vegas.

KAREN and RICK VAN BEBBER were pleased to announce the marriage of their son in Las Vegas, which was the reason for their recent trip. Hubby Rick was quick to offer $100 to the fine can before he answered the question, "How fast did you REALLY drive?” Without divulging Rocket Rick’s record sspeed, I think you can draw your own conclusion as to why Rick and Karen didn't caravan to Vegas behind the rest of the family.

Roy Musick tries to recoup fine but ends up with a bottle of wine.

Although DR. ROY MUSICK didn't win the raffle jackpot of $200, he was the recipient of a fine bottle of wine. Next week's raffle will be $225.

Dale Knight discusses Rotoplast project in Guatemala.

RICHARD MARZO introduced our guest speaker, Dale Knight, who was accornpanied by Nona Lucas of the Rohnert Park/Cotati Club. Dale gave a very moving presentation about Rotary International's Rotoplast Program. Dale and Nona were part of a team, that included medical personnel, which traveled to Guatemala and performed corrective plastic surgery on victims of cleft palate/lip deformities. Thank you, Dale and Nona for bring us such an informative and humbling program which illustrates the commitment and care of Rotary International and dedicated members such as yourselves. The meeting was adjourned promptly at 1:30pm.
