ONITA “3-Putt” PELLEGRINI opened (sans microphone) the special Monday evening meeting at the conclusion of our Club’s Annual Golf Tournament by welcoming one and all (golfers, hackers and dinner guests alike), and again reminding us that she’s the President. TED “Tiger” ADKINS then led us in song (God Bless America), followed by an invocation from Father Gary “Prayer” Lombardi. Next, the Prez introduced our special guest, Ms. Stella Marass, A Rotary World Peace Scholar.

Onita Pellegrini and John Scharer display new club banner - or is it a towel?

Golf Committee Chairman, LEE “1-Putt” BEAN, then congratulated all who participated, and thanked all the volunteers who made the Tournament so much fun: BANO “Fore” CUMMINGS, LARRY “Re-Tee” JONAS, JOHN “Slice” RAMATICI, PAUL “Run It Up” RAMATICI, BUTCH “Sandy” SPOLINI and DICK “Worm Burner” WEBER for a great prime rib meal (with all the trimmings); the Prez and TAWNY “Never up, Never in” TESCONI for the putting contest, JERRY “Beer Hole” GILLESPIEE and RICK “In the Drink” VEN BEBBER for the beer and beverage cart; and JOHN “Keep it in Play” DADO and JOHN “Shark Shootout” SCHRARER for registration (with a special honorable mention to little Natalie Ramatici as potato server!) . A warm round of applause erupted from the “gallery” for all our volunteers’ hard work!

Nancy Koenitzer, Onita Pellegrini and Gina Pittler enjoy their beef.

Lee then proceeded to announce all the contest winners, each of whom received $50.00 for their efforts:

Gina Pittler can hit a long ball.

Then, after the customary mental drum roll, and some astute calculations by our official scorer (Jim Maestretti) Lee finally revealed the Tournament winners:

Lee Bean presents award to Tom Brandal as Steve Powell and Dick Weber look on.

And the 2003 Tournament Championship team (with a 58) was…

John Dado demonstrates obscene gesture as Father Gary Lombardi looks away.

Cheers, jeers and catcalls to all!!!

A special Perseverance Award (for highest score) was “won” by the team of RALPH “Bump It” BETTINELLI, HEIDI “Kick It In” KIBBE, GINA PITTLER and JOHN SCHRARER (good for 4 bottles of wine).

Tawny Tesconi and Rick Oberlin discuss putting techniques.

Lee then concluded the meeting by thanking the PGCC staff, Lace House Linen, and Braren Ranch Winery for all their efforts and support.

Nancy Koenitzer, Onita Pellegrini, Steve Lafrachi, Rick Mossi, Rick Oberlin and Mike Baddeley are having a good time!

Tournament musings: Just wondering how NANCY “Zen of Golf” KOENITZER ended up with BARNEY FAUSS’ wallet? Did KAREN “Slow Play” VAN BEBBER’S team finish before dark? Wasn’t the nattily attired (color coordinated knickers, sports cap, etc.) NORM “19th Hole” SANTOS the best-dressed golfer you’ve ever seen? Speaking of which, will somebody please buy WALLY BRAGDON a new Rotary shirt (maybe something from the 90’s)? Say, where was the Reverend DAN “Links Golf” LIBARLE? Oh, well, see you next time!

Herb Bundesen opens the meeting with song.

On a delightful Thursday in beautiful Petaluma as we feasted upon a glorious meal provided by GENE GIORGETTI and staff, PRESIDENT ONITA called the meeting to order. HERB BUNDESEN led us in singing "America the Beautiful."

LARRY GOTFREDSON delivered the thought for the day and asked us to join him in prayer remembering all of those affected by the conflict in the Middle East. LARRY JONAS introduced our visiting Rotarians, Lee Fishman from the Sunrise Club, and Libby Fitzgerald, President of the Valley Club. We had one guest introduced.

Al Kaplan collects the fines, Greta Viguie passes the mike.

Hence the fining began....

Barney Fauss is a champion!

BARNEY FAUSS, who barely squeezed into the 59 and over category at the Golf Club was awarded the "Super Senior Club Champion" for which he received a $40.00 prize, Being the good super senior sport that BARNEY is, a $50,00 fine was squeezed from him. LEROY BEAN, was additionally fined $10.00 for teaching BARNEY "everything he doesn't know about golf.” TOM BAKER, who just returned from a fishing trip in Lake Almanor, was fined $26.00 ($2.00 for each of the fish he caught).

WALLY BRAGDON was called upon to discuss his newest acquisition, a racing yacht, and was fined $25.00.

Past President ED FULLERTON was asked about the very special trip he recently took to Oshkosh, Wisconsin with his son and grandson. Although the fuel for the trip cost $1,100, the fine cost him $50.00 as the time with his son and grandson were priceless.

Onita Pellegrini likes rats.

It was this time during the meeting that PRESIDENT ONITA reminded club members of her latest program called "Rat on a Friend". Apparently, if members are aware of something about another member, we are to urged to contact PRESIDENT ONITA immediately so she can surprise the friend of the rat at the meeting with a fine. This editor asked what the "rat" received in compensation and was told "the immense love and appreciation of PRESIDENT ONITA." Okay, so the only rule is to rat out a friend. Just remember, if you win the rat race, you're still a rat!

Speaking of rats, someone ratted out our beloved GENE BENEDETTI who was fined $10.00 for a prestigious award which was awarded to Clover.

This looks like James Burleson but it's really Steve Rustad wearing a lifelike mask!

It was time for the raffle and the ticket was drawn. To everyone's surprise the winner was NOT STEVE OLMSTED, but our newest member, STEVE RUSTAD. (Do you think we should all change our names to Steve?)

John Scharer introduces the program.

JOHN SCHARER introduced our guest speaker, Sharon Hughes, who hosts a radio talk show called "Changing World Views." Sharon's show can be heard locally on Thursday's at 6:30pm and Saturday's at 7:00am on KDIA AM 1640. The meeting was adjourned promptly at 1:30pm. Don't forget we are dark next Thursday, August 21, 2003

SECRETARY STEVE would have been a part of the group, but had other plans that day, now that’s a bad day at the races. John shared $100 with the club and another $100 to the foundation.

"Honest, Karen, I didn't mean it!"

RICK and KAREN VAN BEBBER vacationed in Disneyland; that cost RICK $50. When they returned they became the proud Grandparents of a 7.7lb, 18-inch baby girl. That was worth $100 to KAREN.
