‘Twas the week before Christmas when all through the hall,
President ONITA opened the meeting with a Holiday call;
TED ADKINS, the Club crooner, had us singing away,
Followed by LARRY JONAS with our thought for the day.

The customary handshakes and hugs did then ensue,
While TAWNY TESCONI introduced the visiting Rotarians to give them their due;
Several guests of Rotarians joined in our Holiday cheer,
Including Kathy Lawrence, Shirley McDonald and Connie Mahoney who are each so dear.

We were saddened to hear that HEIDI KIBBE’s mother had passed away,
And that PDG ART AGNEW, GENE BENEDETTI, and Ev Benedetti were not doing o.k.;
Our heartfelt prayers and well wishes went to them all,
And ONITA suggested we could give them a call.

TOM BAKER, as chairman of the Children’s Holiday Party,
Reported this year the donations, gifts and children were each quite hearty;
When what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But JERRY GILLESPIE selling shirts, hats and other Rotary gear.

Then up stepped RICK MOSSI, so lively and quick
We knew in a moment it was the Super Raffle shtick;
More rapid than beagles his captains they came,
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name.

Now BRAGDON, now MICKELSON, now FULLERTON and TOM BAKER,
Now SCHARER, now BRANDALL, now KIBBE, now MARZO and HANSEL the deal maker;
Each ticket is $30 and there will be more winners to call,
Now sell away, sell away, sell away all!

February 13 is the date for our Crab Feed at the Vets,
And STEVE HENRIS let us know that $35 a ticket is as good as it gets;
New member KEITH SOLTS then stood to show his mettle,
To solicit volunteers to ring a Salvation Army kettle.

And then, in a twinkling, we knew we were able,
To sing “Happy Birthday” to the December Birthday table;
As we finished the song and were sitting back down,
To the podium ONITA returned with a bound.

And she looked fantastic if only her earrings would stay put;
A bundle of fines she had written on her list,
And she looked like a lottery winner who would soon have $ in her fist.

Her eyes – how they twinkled, her dimples how merry,
As she fined KIP HERZOG, CLARK ROSEN and new member CARRIE;
Her pretty little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
As she explained how they all won raffles at the Realtor’s Breakfast – just so we’d know.

The end of her pen she held tight in her teeth,
As she then fined ROY MUSICK and BILL HARTMAN, but not new member KEITH;
Roy it seems went to Scotland, but we all felt she was reaching,
When she fined Bill for changing careers so he could start teaching.

She was a perky, happy, right jolly old elf,
And she proceed to fine RICK MOSSI, JOHN DADO and even RALPH BETTINELLI, in spite of herself;
John’s son got married in Hawaii – it was a grand affair,
And apparently Rick went to a company party . . . dressed in Sponge Bob underwear!

She remembered the raffle, and went straight to work,
She fumbled around, then pulled the winning ticket with a jerk;
Then moving her finger like it was on fire,
She had JOANNE FERRIS introduce the award winning St. Vincent’s High School choir.

Their Holiday songs put us all in the mood,
For a festive season, good tidings and plenty of food;
And we heard ONITA exclaim, ere she closed out the meeting,
“MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A HOLIDAY GREETING”!

Enjoy the Holidays and have a Happy New Year. We’ll see you at our next regular meeting on January 8, 2004 !!

December 11, 2003

The bell sounded at precisely 12:30 and PRESIDENT ONITA called the meeting to order.

BARNEY FAUSS led us in a jolly rendition of "I'm a Rambler" followed by an enthusiastic "O'Beautiful".

KEITH SOLTS stepped up to the podium next for the invocation. He thanked God for the wonderful Interact Students that were in attendance and the scrumptious meal we were enjoying. The usual hugs and handshakes quickly followed. The tradition seemed a little louder and longer than it has been in awhile.

There were lots of Interact Students to meet and greet.

We had a visiting student From Copenhagen Denmark

PRESIDENT ONITA asked for visiting Rotarians when MICHAEL CARUANA introduced his Interact guest. Whoops!! He wasn't listening to the PREZ and it cost him $10. Jill from the Sunrise Club introduced herself as the only visiting Rotarian. It was then time for all the members with Interact Student guests to be introduced. Every table had a few guests. It was great to see some youth in the crowd. PRESIDENT ONITA gave the sunshine report next. Our beloved PDG ART AGNEW is a little under the weather. PAUL MASELLI'S wife is home from the hospital and NIT ANDERSON is now out and about.

KATHY BURROUGHS went up to get her Rotary cup from PRESIDENT ONITA for putting on a fabulous holiday party. She in turn thanked all her Interact helpers.

JOHN DADO then presented the Club with a $250 check from John and Ann Mahoney in honor of Harold Mahoney.

KEITH SOLTS offered up a challenge with the Lion's Club to out do them as bell ringers for the Salvation Army. Please give KEITH a call to schedule a time.

It's not too late to order your Rotary shirts. Let GERRY GILLESPIE know what you need.

CONNIE HEIZER told us about the Festival of Trees in Downtown Petaluma. Merchants will be displaying decorated trees from November 29th to December 14th. The trees will be auctioned by silent bid. All the proceeds will be going to local charities. One of CONNIE'S five trees will benefit our Rotary Dictionary Program.

PRESIDENT ONITA introduced our new PRESIDENT ELECT ELECT LEROY BEAN. Congratulations!!! You'll be tapping that bell before you know it.

KIP HERZOG was asked by the PREZ to explain to the new members, how LEROY was chosen. The past five Presidents get together and vote. The member must be in good standing with the Club and have served as a board member for at least one year. They even vote by secret ballot and surprise the unsuspecting winner. (That way they can't say "no".)

TOM BAKER reminded everyone who is delivering gifts to the children on the 18th to pick up their assignments at his office (Westgate Realty). The gifts will be distributed at Bank of Petaluma on McDowell beginning at 4:00p.m.. Be sure to come back to the Bank for beverages and goodies.

The PREZ quickly got some fines in.

JIM MICKELSON donated $20 for a ticket he received. He was a little vague on the circumstances. RALPH BETTINELLI had a party on Rotary Day and didn't even invite PRESIDENT ONITA. That cost him $25. LINDA Zacharin sold the Quarry on Petaluma Blvd., which cost her $25. BARNIE FAUSS got a new badge for $10. It was finally time for the raffle.

One of our lucky Interact Students walked off with $25.

BARNIE FAUSS introduced Sharon Hughes from Changing Worldviews as our guest speaker. She is a radio talk show host and has a web site. Her focus is on letting people know the facts about our changing worldviews. She involved the Interact Students by having them participate in a mock radio show. Three Petaluma High School students were asked the question," What is the greatest challenge facing the young generation of today?" They did a great job. Sharon went on to describe the traits of a leader. Fearless, tireless, instructed in their arena, applying oneself and a commitment to a cause were some of them. Sounds like our very own PRESIDENT ONITA.
