As we walked into Herzog Hall, we were immediately brought back to the Petaluma Fair. The room was decorated in the life of PRESIDENT TAWNY. There was cotton candy, popcorn, corn dogs, nachos and of course, a full bar. The Kiwanis were even there with a keg of beer. The room was perfect for our final farewell to PRESIDENT TAWNY. After lots of fellowship, we filled our plates with delicious chicken and tri-tip prepared by our resident chef, BILL DATOR.

PRESIDENT TAWNY brought her last meeting to order after a huge round of applause from a most appreciative audience. STEVE RUSTAD was called on to lead us in song with “God Bless America”.

TAWNY then asked CLARK ROSEN to introduce our newest members. MARY ANN SHOEMAKER brought WIL SOPER and GRETA VIGUE brought in DAVID SOLO. Welcome!!

ONITA PELLIGRINI was proud to announce our newest Paul Harris Fellows. Congratulations to: SHERRY SCHEROTTER-BURWEN (#3), AL KAPLAN (#2), JOHN DADO (#2), ERIK GUNHEIM, PAUL MASELLI for his son, Jim, ROBERT MITCHELL, MARY ANN SHOEMAKER and Kathy Brandal. TAWNY thanked NORM and BEV OWEN for always being so supportive to our Club.

It looks like the engagement is still on. TAWNY remembered to thank her fiancé, Michael Wagner, for putting up with all of us for a year.

It was then time to thank her board. She presented each one with a special gift.

Those Rotarians with 100% attendance were honored next. The list included: BRIAN BREEN, GAIL CARDAROPOLI, AL KAPLAN, JOHN DADO, ED FULLERTON, LARRY JONAS, STEVE OLMSTEAD, SHERRY SCHEROTTER-BURWEN, MARY ANN SHOEMAKER AND LOU STEINBERG.

While waiting for JIM McCAFFREY to come forward to give the invocation, TAWNY couldn’t resist one more jab at LARRY JONAS “Did his shirt used to be a couch?” “Were FRED WULFF’S overalls from his dad or his hope chest?” JIM proceeded with the invocation, “God bless America, this group, this food and those less fortunate.”

It was now time for TAWNY to thank the people that made her year a great one. JOANNE FERRIS went above and beyond all year for her PREZ and the Club. “What would a week be like without STEVE RUSTAD’s witty cartoons?

Special recognition was given to those who truly became Rotarians this past year. They exemplified service above self. They were MARY ANN SHOEMAKER, BRIDGET DOHERTY and JAMES GOTELLI.

We can’t forget Marlene Freetly, who helped us with our outreach program.

PRESIDENT TAWNY, PRESIDENT ELECT LOU and PRESIDENT ELECT ELECT RALPH have committed $25,000 to the Santa Rosa Junior College, Petaluma Campus, Rotary Plaza. This will be their joint venture. This is just part of the $146,000 Petaluma Rotary will give to the community and Rotary International.

TAWNY could not let the evening end without thanking her family, Tracy, Tina, Tom and Tim Tesconi, for all their support.

PRESIDENT TAWNY thanked the people that made the debunking possible which included, BRIDGET DOHERTY, JOANNE FERRIS, ONITA PELLIGRINI, Oralee Bean, Sharon Dado. Kathy Brandal and ERIK GUNHEIM.

TAWNY wouldn’t have made it through the year without her right hand person at the fair, Debbie Townsend.

It was now time for the most prestigious award of the night, Rotarian of the Year. After 20 years of service to our Club, the deserving recipient was AL CATTALINI. Congratulations, AL!

It was now time for TAWNY to step aside and let ERIK GUNHEIM begin the official farewell, roast, debunking, you better have a good sense of humor and not be too sensitive toast to our soon to be PAST PRESIDENT. After a great introduction, the video began.

STEVE RUSTAD discovered archives of some very comprising information about our, on the outside innocent, TAWNY. Her nephew was very instrumental on spilling the beans on his Aunt TAWNY. The crowd could not hold back the continuous laughter.

After her face turned from red to pink, it was time for TAWNY to say farewell and pass the President’s pin to LOU STEINBERG. PRESIDENT LOU introduced his Board of Directors. It’s the beginning of a new Rotary year. See you all on July 12th.

Tom enjoys a cold beer prior to the meeting.

Barney and Dave realize how funny the dice can be after a few stiff drinks.

PRESIDENT TAWNY began the meeting by dispensing with the song and having AL CATTALINI lead us in the Flag Salute in honor of Flag Day.

MICHAEL WHITE then waxed eloquently about the month of June, . . .

. . . followed by PAUL LOUNIBUS giving us an interpretation of the Pledge of Allegiance, written by Red Skelton.

Robert introduces our visiting Rotarian.

After introduction of one visiting Rotarian, from Novato, . . .

Gail introduces her granddaughter.

. . . several members introduced their guests.

Lou practices being presidential.

Alden points out an error on the anniversary list.

Steve pleads (surprise!) ignorance.

One week late, due to our Secretary forgetting the list last week PRESIDENT TAWNY read all of the Anniversaries in the club. June is a great month for weddings, almost everyone but LARRY JONAS was mentioned.

PRESIDENT TAWNY introduced her Rotarian of the Month, . . .

. . . LARRY JONAS for all of his work on behalf of establishing the JOHN RAMATICI Scholarship Fund.

MICHAEL WHITE then reminded everyone about the RYLA BBQ at Westminster Woods next Wednesday the 20th. He has volunteers for cooking but invited anyone else in the club who would like to attend and see the camp to please join him.

ONITA PELLEGRINI than announced that we are still in “Spring Match.” All contributions to the Paul Harris Fund will be matched by the club. It is a great time for new members to begin their Paul Harris.

Remember, next week’s meeting will be at the Fairgrounds. You should have received your ticket (good for two admissions) in the mail. See JOANNE FERRIS at the front gate if you have a problem.

PRESIDENT TAWNY then thanked BRIDGET for her work in setting up the club social at Traxx last week. All who attended had a great time. We will continue with these events next year.

Diana Medeiros from Petaluma High School, competing in the Skills USA impromptu speaking competition, won a Gold Medal for California and will represent not only Petaluma, but the entire State in the national competition in Kansas City, Missouri later this month. The club contributed $250 for her trip.

She was asked, “If you could be fair manager for a day, what changes would you make?” Diana tactfully answered that she would like to see more community involvement especially from the youth. Create more fellowship like we do at Rotary meetings. She will do just fine in the competition and later in politics.

Fines:

NIT ANDERSON was fined for her daughter receiving an internship at the United Nations in New York. She is a graduate student at Pepperdine University after graduating from UC Davis. She was one of 200 students selected from a worldwide field of over 5,000. Nit paid a $50 fine and put $500 toward a Paul Harris, her third.

WALLY “hole in one” BRAGDON paid a $50 fine for his feat on the 6th hole at Petaluma G&CC.

HENRY HANSEL was fined $50 for an award received from the Boys and Girls Club.

We than broke for a club picture featuring RICK VAN BEBBER’s knees front and center.

RON HARRIS was the raffle winner, a bottle of wine.

Lorna Johnson was introduced by . . .

. . . JOANNE FERRIS. Lorna works for a Petaluma company that is a Print Broker, helping to produce and publish books nationally.

Starting in a slightly different order, the attendance at the Fellowship gathering at Traxx was fabulous. Members and guests enjoyed libations, food, and good company. Among PRESIDENT TAWNY’s many accomplishments, the Fellowship gatherings have clearly been a huge success. Who would have thought that a full bar and free food would generate these results? Congratulations to Social Director BRIDGET DOHERTY for her hard work.

Bridget has her usual before the meeting begins.

As Tawny prepares to open one of her final meetings,
Lou signals that he's ready to take control of the podium.

Earlier in the day, PRESIDENT TAWNY asked TED ADKINS to lead us in song . . .

. . . and RALPH HAYWARD gave a great Thought for the Day. He took an ancient text and adapted it for our times: “What goes around comes around” and “Service above self.”

Visiting Rotarian gives us his Al Jolson impersonation.

Ed counters with his best Jolson.

Our club received a banner from the Rotary Club of Midlothian, Virginia. Our presenter told us about the memorial his club is doing to honor the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre. It’s another reminder what Rotary can do when tragedy strikes.

Greta wants to introduce her guest but forgets his name.

BABE AMARAL and DICK WEBER are still alive. TOM BAKER reported that Club friend, Jim Maestretti, is doing better with his rehabilitation.

Onita doesn't know it's not polite to point.

ONITA PELLEGRINI reminded us that the Club is currently matching funds for Paul Harris levels. JOANNE FERRIS alerted us that invitations will be arriving soon for PRESIDENT TAWNY’s debunking on June 29. Reserve your place soon!

Ron reports on the All-Day Breakfast success.

RON HARRIS is looking for a nice family to host our exchange student from mid-March to the end of the school year in 2008.

PAST PRESIDENT LEE BEAN announced Monday, August 13 will be the Rotary Golf Tournament at the Petaluma Golf Club. Start brushing off those irons.

Lou asks for help.

June 20 is the Ryla Camp BBQ and volunteers are needed to support this important project. Lori Pierce from the Argus Courier reminded us about the upcoming pull-out section on Rotary and asked the members to step with advertisements. This is a great way to let the community know about your efforts in Rotary.

The saga of Milkgate continues.

Ricardo makes a strong point.

The fine can was full after PRESIDENT TAWNY hit the following members for various infractions and accolades:

$100 - JIM McCAFFREY

$75 - RALPH HAYWARD

$20 - STEVE OLMSTED

$50- - SHERRY ANN SCHEROTTER-BURWEN

$100 - RALPH SARTORI

WHITNEY HALL won the raffle and walked away with a bottle of wine.

Our guest speaker.

Our speaker was absent, so PRESIDENT TAWNY called on

Mike gives his craft talk for the third time.

Whit is mesmerized by Mike's talk.

. . . MIKE BADDELEY, . . .

. . . ONITA PELLEGRINI, . . .

. . . JOANNE FERRIS, . . .

. . . and yours truly to give an updated craft-talk. Everyone gave it their best shot and nobody fell asleep. Success.

Thank you and God Bless.
