Passed away on July 23, 2016 in Cotati at the age of 82 years. Devoted husband of 45 years to Charlotte Olmsted. Beloved father of Lynn Olmsted, Kathleen Hale (Marc), Christian Mertens (Tom), Carol Drysdale (Brooks), Vicky Crayne (Todd), and Steve Olmsted. Adored grandfather of Jackie Machado (Nick), Sena Griffith, Marcus Hale, Nicholas Hale, Kathleen Hale, Zachary Olmsted, Raquel Crayne, Jillian Drysdale, and Ava Drysdale. Cherished great-grandfather of Carrie and Emma Machado.

Steve was born in Petaluma to two pioneer Sonoma County families. A fourth generation Petaluman, his family owned the Petaluma Argus Courier. In 1952, he graduated from Petaluma High School and went on to receive his degree, in 1956, in printing engineering at Cal Poly SLO.

After college, Steve enlisted in the US Army and spent six years honorably serving his country. From an early age, Steve worked for his family's newspaper and then opened his own printing company, House of Printing, which he operated for many years. Following his career in printing, he became a real estate broker and owned and operated Olmsted Realty for many years.

Throughout his life, he was an active member of the Rotary Club of Petaluma; Petaluma Lodge B.P.O. Elks #901; and Petaluma-Hamilton #18, F & AM. In his spare time, Steve enjoyed playing cards and hunting. He was a proud owner of Lone Tree Gun Club.

Above all, Steve loved his family. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. Friends and family are invited to attend the Memorial Service, Friday, July 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. Memorial contributions can be made to your favorite charity . Private Inurnment.
